The State of California is required to create maps that show how severe the wildfire risk is in different parts of the State. Severity is rated on a scale of Moderate, High, Very High. The ratings are used to guide government agencies in conducting planning and implementing regulations related to wildfire risk. The State has recently created updated maps for areas that are considered “Local Responsibility Areas,” which are areas in which local fire departments are responsible for fire services. Municipalities are required to post the updated maps, gather public comment, and adopt the updated maps.
