Vallejo’s historic Downtown is the heart of the City and a treasured historic asset for the community. Beginning in April 2015, the Economic Development Division has overseen the Downtown Property Enhancement Program (DPEP). This practical tool encouraged economic growth and business activity by assisting downtown businesses and building owners to improve the visual appearance and condition of their storefronts and the accessibility of their buildings through the award of matching grants. The program was developed following a cooperative effort between the Economic Development Division and Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley to create an action strategy for downtown revitalization. Additional information can be found here.

Current Status (2023):

Next steps include the preparation of a Downtown Vallejo Specific Plan aimed at revitalizing Downtown Vallejo into a high-density, mixed-use district within the City. Downtown will feature more retail, housing, and an Arts and Entertainment district. As this project moves forward, updates on this effort can be found on the Planning Division’s project page, which is currently in development.
