Illegal Dumping

Illegal Dumping LogoThe City of Vallejo is criminally prosecuting people who illegally dump garbage and debris on public or private property (VMC 7.44.100) or accumulate garbage and debris on or near their property (VMC 7.44.110) in violation of the Vallejo Municipal Code.

The City has increased staffing in the Code Enforcement Division to investigate and recommend illegal dumping events for prosecution.

Illegal dumping prosecution can result in a misdemeanor offense with a penalty of up to 6 months in jail and/or a fine up to $1,000.

For the City to be successful in its criminal prosecutions of illegal dumping, we need the help of residents, businesses and stakeholders. Section 7.44.160 of the Vallejo Municipal Code entitles people who provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person who illegally dumps or accumulates garbage a reward of up to fifty percent of the fine amount received.
