Mare Island

Mare Island was the nation's first naval station on the West Coast, commencing operations in 1854. Since its closure in 1996, the community has rallied around the island's conversion to Vallejo's newest neighborhood. The City of Vallejo has partnered with Lennar Mare Island to develop and manage Mare Island. The island is now home to more than 100 businesses, Touro University, an active residential neighborhood, an 18-hole golf course, and much more.

In July 2014, approximately 150+ acres on the north end of the island was subject to a Request For Qualifications (RFQ) for potential developers. To read more about the RFQ and its results, visit our North Mare Island RFQ page.
